Reepham Church
Appointed as the principal contractor by a conservation architect on behalf of St Michael’s Church PCC, our team at John Briggs and Son undertook a comprehensive programme of conservation works to the historic church at Reepham.
The project involved flint repointing to all four elevations of the church tower using lime mortar, as well as carefully executed stone repairs and replacements to a variety of architectural elements across the building. Internally, we carried out a sympathetic reordering which included the installation of a new stone floor, a bespoke stainless steel staircase, lime plaster repairs, and internal decoration.
A key challenge on this project was site access and logistics. With over 20 tonnes of sand required to produce the lime mortar for more than 100m² of flint repointing, we had to meticulously plan material deliveries to avoid any impact on the surrounding graveyard walls and neighbouring properties.
While many of our church and listed building projects involve similar conservation techniques, each site brings its own set of constraints. Our approach always includes a detailed pre-construction phase, during which we assess site-specific risks and implement measures to ensure an efficient, safe, and respectful delivery.
Whether you’re overseeing a place of worship or a privately owned listed building, we bring decades of experience in overcoming complex conservation challenges while preserving what matters most.
